Summer Concert Ticket Wish List

In the just the past few weeks, the events calendar here in Indy has really filled up.  Summer concerts are one of my favorite things in the world, because for more, there’s quite possibly nothing better than live music.  I love it all in any genre.

So here’s my wish list of summer concerts in Indy.  No, it’s not a complete listing of concerts coming to town, and there are bound to be many, many more added in the coming weeks.  These are just the ones that really excite me.  (Don’t get me started on my girl crush on Miranda Lambert.)  And as you will notice, my list is extensive, and I cannot possibly attend all these shows.  But that’s why it’s called a wish list. Hum It Lightly

Everyone at one time or another has a job (or if they’re lucky just an errant day) where they feel that their employer has no respect for them–that the company they work for sees them as entirely disposable and easily replaceable. In my experience, most people have said mind-numbing job around college. I had mine during.

I worked in retail and actually grew to love it. I enjoyed dressing women, teaching them new ways to appreciate themselves. I became a big fan of pride in one’s appearance because being comfortable with my looks gave me room to worry about other things–the more important things. Going to work, in a lot of ways, was relaxing for me. I mixed life with intense intellectual challenges and thoughtless charisma. The only thing that mattered at work was how upbeat and patient I could be.

Except. That’s not all. The reason I worked at a retail shop while going to college full time was…I needed the money. It’s amazing the crap we’ll take for the bare necessities. I realized over the years after the prejudice, harassment and general poor treatment that being loyal to your job isn’t the same thing as  your company being loyal to you.

Memories of my favorite job came to mind when I heard this story in conjunction with this phenomenal song. Continue reading

Watch My Feet

from cartoonstock.com

I’ve never been fond of the typical New Year’s revolution to eat better and get in shape. I have yet to see it truly work long-term for people who  didn’t exercise before. So, dropping pounds, etc. was not my resolution. The time in my life when I was the most active (dancing, marching, jogging, etc.) was when I gained the most weight. My thyroid bottomed out and while my peers dropped weight instantly, I gained almost 50 lbs in less than a year. Since then, I’ve tried to tackle other problems first like laundry and class work.

Joining a gym and starting a fitness plan is a resolution of one of my friends. She called me up and, a few days later, we were dancing so hard I thought my heart would burst. The only thing keeping me from tripping over my own feet was watching the instructors feet, which fortunately were in bright white shape-ups– hard to miss. Continue reading

What to expect…

…Not “when you’re expecting!”  That’s somebody else’s blog.  No, this is what to expect when you see that Gold “C” next to a post from me, Celeste.  I write the entertainment portion of this little blog here on B1057.com.  Hi.

MOVIES
Let’s be honest, movie tickets are stupidly expensive these days.  But, oh my goodness, there’s nothing better than the smell of popcorn as soon as you walk into a movie theater.  And tickets!  I don’t know why I have an affinity for movie tickets.  I have a hard time throwing the ticket away because I really get all nostalgic when I find an old movie ticket in a coat pocket.  And there’s something special about going into a theater to sit in big squishy, reclining chair to share an hour and a half or two hours with total strangers and escape to some other world, getting sucked in to a story.
