Getting back in the workout routine

Although we experienced a warmer than usual early spring, it seems like lately the weather has leveled off to more normal temps for this time of year. While I’m back to wearing a light jacket when I leave for work in the mornings, I can’t help but think about summertime which will be here before we know it.

Now is as good of time as any to start thinking about fitting into your favorite swimsuit or shorts and start eating healthier and working out so that you’re ready to flaunt your figure once the thermometer starts heating up.

If the number of workouts you’ve been logging has dropped since your New Year’s Resolution, get back on track and try to work out for a minimum of 30 minutes 4-5 days a week. Continue reading

Watch My Feet

from cartoonstock.com

I’ve never been fond of the typical New Year’s revolution to eat better and get in shape. I have yet to see it truly work long-term for people who  didn’t exercise before. So, dropping pounds, etc. was not my resolution. The time in my life when I was the most active (dancing, marching, jogging, etc.) was when I gained the most weight. My thyroid bottomed out and while my peers dropped weight instantly, I gained almost 50 lbs in less than a year. Since then, I’ve tried to tackle other problems first like laundry and class work.

Joining a gym and starting a fitness plan is a resolution of one of my friends. She called me up and, a few days later, we were dancing so hard I thought my heart would burst. The only thing keeping me from tripping over my own feet was watching the instructors feet, which fortunately were in bright white shape-ups– hard to miss. Continue reading

Get out and play in the leaves

If you’re like me and have plenty of leaves to rake at your home, instead of dreading the task, why not have a little fun with it and burn some calories while you’re at it!

It seems like the leaves this year have fallen earlier than usual. Which in my opinion is great, because 1) you know it’s going to happen eventually, so lets get it over with and 2) I’d rather be out in the yard during the mild fall weather that we’ve had then freezing out in 40 degree weather.

I love to let my dogs join in the activity. Raking is boring, tiring and just not fun. But raking a pile of leaves and having dogs run through the pile, romping and playing is just too cute. I’m sure someday if I have kids, that it’s been even more fun. But for now, I’ll let the dogs join me. Continue reading

Get out and enjoy the weather!

The weather this week has been beautiful. I mean, its just perfect outside; warm and sunny with clear blue skies. The sweltering days of summer are over and we can all reemerge and enjoy the outdoors before the inevitable cooler temps arrive.

Unfortunately fall comes with shorter days and less time to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, especially if you’re like me and spend most of daylight hours at work.

Now is the perfect time to get outdoors any chance you get, and why not add in a little exercise!

If the mornings are too brisk for you, try a midday stroll in your neighborhood or if you work during the day, grab a coworker and walk around the block a few times during your lunch break. Great way to get out of the office and spend a little time chatting about your favorite TV shows or maybe even a little office gossip! Continue reading
